There are two types of reading text that I get, namely:

 1. Narrative Text

Narrative Text is a type of text in the form of imaginary stories, engineered true stories, or fairy tales originating from the imagination or imagination of the author which tells chronologically or are interconnected.  This type of text aims to entertain the reader without any intention or anything else.

The characteristics of this text are using an action verb in the form of past tense and using an adjective which forms a noun phrase.

 Then the structure used is:

 1.    Orientation (introduction)

 2.    Complication (conflict)

 3.    Resolution (problem solving)

 4.    Reorientation (conclusion)

Example:

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Cinderella who lived with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Every day, the stepmother would make Cinderella do all of the housework, and the stepsisters would be cruel to her.

One day, the King announced a grand ball and invited all eligible young ladies of the kingdom. The stepsisters were ecstatic and quickly began making their preparations for the event. Despite Cinderella’s begging, her stepmother refused to let her go.

Cinderella was heartbroken but then an unexpected visitor appeared: her fairy godmother! Cinderella’s godmother had heard of her plight and wanted to help. She waved her wand and created an amazing gown, glass slippers, and a beautiful coach with four white horses. But, the magic would only last until midnight.

Cinderella was overjoyed! She thanked her fairy godmother and quickly set off for the ball. Everyone at the ball was amazed by Cinderella’s beauty and she soon caught the eye of the Prince. The two danced all night and by midnight Cinderella had to leave because the magic was wearing off.

Cinderella ran out of the ball, losing a glass slipper in her haste. The Prince vowed to find the woman who owned the slipper and sent out a proclamation. After searching all over, he finally arrived at Cinderella’s house and tried on the slipper. It fit—and so the two were married!

Cinderella was finally able to live happily ever after with her beloved prince. She never forgot the kindness of her fairy godmother, who had made it all possible.

2.  Descriptive Text

Descriptive text is one type of English text that needs to be learned. This text provides information and describes any thing, such as humans, animals, plants, and inanimate objects in detail.  When reading this text, you can automatically immediately imagine what is meant in the text.

Descriptive text uses the simple present tense because it talks a lot about facts.  In addition, if uses a lot of adjectives and connecting verbs.

 The structure used is:

 1.    Identification (identification)

 2.    Description

Example :

Honey Bee

This is an extraordinary, curious, and remarkably industrious little insect, to which mankind are indebted for one of the most palatable and wholesome sweets which nature affords; and which was one of the choice articles with which the promised land was said to abound.

In every hive of bees, there are three kinds; the queen, the drones, and the labourers: of these last, there are by far the greatest number: and as cold weather approaches, they drive from the hives and destroy the drones, that have not laboured in summer, and will not let them eat in winter.

If bees are examined through a glass hive, all appears at first like confusion: but, on a more careful inspection, every animal is found regularly employed. It is very delightful, when the maple and other trees are in bloom, or the clover in the meadows, to be abroad and hear their busy hum.
